Danville Independent Schools

Community

On this page, you will find information about the Danville Independent School District's involvement in the Kentucky Community Schools Initiative, information about how to become a community partner, volunteer or mentor in the district, our growing list of community partners, and more.

What is a community school?

Full-service community schools serve as a hub for academic, social and health services. This is possible through partnerships between schools, local nonprofits and other community-based organizations. Community schools aim to reduce barriers for students and their families. By providing extra supports in meeting basic needs, job training, and mental and physical health care, these sites aim to better equip students to focus and succeed in school.

Danville Independent Schools received a $1.5 million five-year grant through the Prichard Committee in 2023 to begin the Kentucky Community Schools Initiative in our own district. The grant will focus on Toliver Intermediate School and Danville High School, as they have the largest population of students compared to Hogsett Primary and Bate Middle School, creating more impact initially.
