Melinda Weathers was sworn in on July 29 to fill a vacancy on the Danville Independent Schools Board of Education, with her term effective until Dec. 31, 2022. Weathers stated that she is at a place in her life and career where she wants to give back to the school system that invested in her. She also wants to continue the advocacy work of her sister Yolanda Weathers, a longtime employee of the district who passed away in January.
She appreciates the diversity of the district and public schools and wants to help create equitable outcomes for all. Weathers has more than 15 years of experience in the human service profession and has an employment background with institutions including Centre College, Eastern Kentucky University, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the University of Louisville and the Housing Authority of Danville.
