Brantley Oliver, who will be a student at John W. Bate Middle School in the fall, attended the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C., the week of June 17-21.

“This trip helped me improve my leadership skills,” he said, reflecting on the opportunity. “I got to meet a lot of people from all over the country. The monuments showed what the different leaders in our country’s history have done to improve our lives. I enjoyed taking pictures. My favorite part was touring the Capitol because I got to go on the floor and see where our leaders today work.”

The Junior National Young Leaders Conference is an Envision by WorldStrides program that encourages students to develop their interests and learn beyond the classroom, according to a press release from WorldStrides.

Susan Wheeler, a 5th grade teacher at Edna L. Toliver Intermediate School, is who nominated him to attend the conference this summer. The Danville Independent School District congratulates him on this opportunity and for his performance in the classroom and involvement in extracurricular activities.
