You are invited to the Danville-Boyle County Martin Luther King Day Community Celebration on Monday, Jan. 15 in the Gravely Hall Performing Arts Center. There will be a march from City Hall to Danville High School, which begins at 12 p.m. on the steps of City Hall. The program will begin at 12:45 p.m. in the Gravely Hall Performing Arts Center. The event honors the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Danville High School alumnus Maricus Lofton is the featured speaker at the event, and the middle and high school Poetry Category winners of the Frank X Walker Creative Arts Festival Student Contest have been invited to read their winning entries.

The Danville High School and Boyle County High School choirs will be performing along with a community choir and other speakers and performers. The program will be hosted by high school students Londyn Jackson (Danville High School) and Demani Bell (Boyle County High School). An exhibit of the winners of the Frank X Walker Creative Arts Festival Student Contest will be located in the Danville High School lobby. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and remain open for an hour following the program. A grab-and-go lunch and T-shirts will be available while supplies last.

The public is also invited to Centre College’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation at 7 p.m. at Newlin Hall in the Norton Center for the Arts.
