Danville Independent Schools is one of 13 school districts participating in "a statewide effort to receive postsecondary professional coaching at the school and district leadership levels to improve college readiness outcomes for students," according to a press release from the Kentucky Department of Education.

Participation will include completing a two-year program with OneGoal’s Postsecondary Leadership Series. Participating schools are receiving this support from OneGoal through federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds from KDE, at no cost.

One of the Danville High School guidance counselors, Sarah Cantrell, said there is a team at the high school working to improve postsecondary readiness with support from the staff at OneGoal.

"Improving postsecondary readiness is a big goal and focus for us, and we are excited to have some support and identify areas of growth," she said.

Principal Chad Luhman said one of the high school's goals is to improve the school's transition-readiness score to 100% by 2025.

"Danville High School's postsecondary indicator has improved from 55.5% to 71.1% from 2020 to 2021," he said. "DHS has placed an emphasis on increasing the dual enrollment opportunities for all juniors and seniors. This initiative has lead us to strengthen our partnership with the University of Kentucky and the Boyle County BCTC extension. OneGoal provides a unique partnership to help secure the structures and resources to ensure student success. The consultants help drive conversations about four-year graduation rate, college enrollment rate, early college credentials, FASFA updates, on-track performance, and selectivity of senior class college applications, among other topics."

The program is made possible by a partnership between the KDE, The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, and OneGoal.

The project aims to "ensure equity in postsecondary advising and access, as COVID-19 resulted in college enrollment declines in Kentucky," according to the press release.
