Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) Day was Feb. 8, and the Danville Independent School District wants to spotlight our wonderful FRYSC staff. We asked them what their favorite parts of their jobs are. We are so proud of the innovative, compassionate and important ways they serve our students, families and communities.

Jenny Clark

Family Resource Center Director
Hogsett Primary & Toliver Intermediate

Jenny Clark

"My favorite part of working with Families First is each day may bring on so many different things. Opportunities for families in our district, opportunities for our Center to grow and advocate in our community on behalf of families — I learn something new every day. For instance, we know a lot about stain removal, budgeting, knowing a shoe size before sizing the kiddo, and navigating community resources for items like beds, pots, and pans.

Hogsett Primary and Toliver Intermediate are both served by Families First FRC. At Hogsett, I really enjoy the work we do with the families as a whole as the children enter school. Hogsett Primary lays such a great foundation for our families, and we are so lucky to bring programming and assistance where we can. My favorite part about being at Toliver is the autonomy our students gain while they are with us. We really see them grow into the people they are choosing to be when they are students at Toliver."

Mary Beth Steger

Director of Youth Services
Bate Middle & Danville High

Mary Beth Steger

"I am the Director of Youth Services, and I get to serve 6-12th grade students. I serve Bate Middle School, Danville High School, Anchor Academy, and Sunrise Children Services.

My favorite part about working with children and their families is getting to meet each student or family exactly where they’re at. Each student and family is so unique and has so much to bring to the table. I love being able to find a way to help remove any barrier they might be facing and watching them learn the skills needed to be successful inside and out of the classroom."

Mary Wells

Family Resource Center Liaison
Hogsett Primary

Mary Wells

"My favorite part of this job is working with families to try and figure out what they need in order to help them with their child or a situation. I love it when things come together and we make some gains!"

Tesha Bryant

Family Resource Center Liaison
Toliver Intermediate

Tesha Bryant

"My favorite part of my job is having BLUE point lunches with the students and making slime! I am also really proud of our mentoring program where students have lunch with their mentors once a week. Our mentors are trusted adults who make a huge difference in the lives of our children."

Ashley Mays

Beacon Liaison
Bate Middle

Ashley Mays

"I enjoy helping students and building bonds with them and helping them succeed in class. Also, having them come into my room in between classes just to simply give me a hug and talk makes my day. I do enjoy helping families in this community, and being able to help and support them is a very rewarding feeling! I love my job!"

Tessa Goodin

Beacon Liaison
Danville High

Tessa Goodin

"My favorite part about working with students and families at Danville High School is the relationships that I build with those students and families. I love getting to know them and being able to make an impact in their lives. Knowing that our students and their families always have a place or person to go to when they need it is what drives me to do what I do. They are my reason why."
