This month, the Danville High School Thespian Troupe #8343 held bake sales to raise money for California thespian troupes that have been negatively impacted by wildfires.

Senior Londyn Jackson, the DHS troupe’s president, explained that the troupe is required to do a service project each year. While they were brainstorming ideas, the troupe’s officers chose the project after Director of Arts Education Jane Dewey shared that the Educational Theatre Association was organizing an effort to raise money for California thespian troupes. 

Jackson said it’s meaningful to her to support fellow troupes. 

“Theatre is just one big community,” Jackson said. “Everyone is connected everywhere you go, and with the International Thespian Society as a whole, everyone is just one big family, from all different parts. And you always want to help your family and help your community as best as you can, especially in a tragedy like that.”

DHS Drama Teacher Kellsie Covington said the DHS troupe has 16 inducted members and a total of 35 students who were involved in the bake sales or who are in the process of getting inducted. The group raised about $250-$300 through the bake sales from Feb. 10-21. 

“This is just another way to feel connected, to show support, and to have some meaningful impact in other communities.” Covington said.
