The Danville High School theater program is preparing to proudly present “Alice in Wonderland,” originally written by Lewis Carroll and adapted for stage by William Glennon. DHS will be showing the play in the Danville Independent Schools’ Gravely Hall Performing Arts Center, located inside DHS.

The DHS spring production has moved its dates to March, not May, for the spring of 2024. “Alice in Wonderland” showtimes are: Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 23 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 24 at 3 p.m. Tickets will be available online a week prior to opening night, as well as at the door before the showtimes. Admission is $8 for adults, and $4 for students and seniors 65 and older.

DHS puts its own spin on the timeless classic, taking audiences down the rabbit hole with Alice and other familiar characters: the Queen of Hearts, the March Hare, the Frog Footman, the Cheshire Cat, and others. Throughout her journey in Wonderland, Alice faces challenges, as things are never quite as they seem. Playing cards talk, riddles have impossible answers and a croquet game has living wickets.

“DHS continues to nurture students’ talents onstage and offstage as student designers, actors, stage managers and technicians work with Play Director Kellsie Covington and Scenic Designer and Technical Director Jaden Steberl to make this imaginary world come to life,” said DISD Director of Arts Education Jane Dewey. “DHS theater relies on ticket sales and donations to fund artistic opportunities for its students. Please consider supporting the theater program.”

“Alice in Wonderland” is produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois.
