The Danville Independent School District's Board of Education unanimously approved the selection of a construction management adviser for the renovation of John W. Bate Middle School, D.W. Wilburn.
Renovations are anticipated to begin in the spring and continue for the next two years. The building hasn't gotten a renovation since it was first built in the 1970s.
Also during the meeting, two individuals from the public made public comment to the board opposing Amendment 2. One was a Danville High School student, and one was a community member who previously had children in the Danville Schools.
The meeting included several student and staff recognitions as well. Since the meeting took place at Edna L. Toliver Intermediate School, the school arranged for gifted and talented students to put on a performance in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which was from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
Principal Renee Lanigan also recognized two students for exiting English Learner services: Aran Arrinda-Martinez and Moises Flores Vivanco, and two staff members for their professionalism and work ethic: Instructional Assistant Michaela Stone and Special Education Teacher Molly Cooper.
Lanigan also took the opportunity during the meeting to share a flier highlighting some of the work going on at Toliver this school year.
