The following recognitions and updates are from the special-called board of education meeting at John W. Bate Middle School on Nov. 18.

Bate received a banner for achieving "green" status on the Kentucky Summative Assessment.

John W. Bate Middle School received a banner for achieving "green" status on the Kentucky Summative Assessment for the 2023-2024 and 2022-2023 school years.

 

Bate student is recognized for being a state middle school qualifier for golf.

Congratulations to Wolfe Kerbaugh, who was recognized for being a state middle school qualifier for golf.

 

Bate student recognized for qualifying for the KYACDA Honor Choir

Congratulations to Josiah Policarpio, who was recognized for qualifying for the Kentucky chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (KYACDA) Honor Choir.

 

Bate girls and boys cross country teams were recognized at the meeting

Congratulations to the girls and boys cross country teams, who were recognized for their great season. The girls team was recognized for placing in first in seven out of eight tournaments they participated in and for their excellence at the Salt River Conference. Many students were medalists.

Congratulations to Tonia Bireley, who was recognized for her outstanding service to the school and students of Bate as instructional coach/interventionist. Another staff member who was recognized is Instructional Assistant Esperanza Zavala (not pictured), for her dedication to students and being a longtime, outstanding employee. 

  

    Other highlights from the meeting:

  • The board heard about the district's audit results. There was a clean audit. 
  • A construction update shared at the meeting is that the Central Office roof project is complete, the Danville High School roof is currently being worked on and the district has received the drawings for Anchor Plaza, an outdoor learning space that will be in front of DHS. 
  • The board approved the new athletic coaches' handbook. This is similar to the staff handbook and consists of existing laws and policies that apply to athletic coaches, all in one place. The handbook is available on danvilleschools.net under the "Employment" tab.
