John W. Bate Middle School 8th graders presented their gateway projects on May 13-15 at Bluegrass Community and Technical College (Danville campus). 

They showcased what Portrait of a Danville Learner strengths they have, areas of growth, and future plans. They gave their presentations to groups of panelists, made up of staff and community members. The 8th graders also got a tour of BCTC during their time there.

The gateways showcased the wonderful growth students have made in middle school. For example, one student shared that he now loves to write since the district started incorprating Thinking Maps into learning. He said he loves that he can get his ideas down on paper with the maps really easily, and then when he comes back to it after interruptions, he still knows his plan, and it's easy to continue his work.

In their gateway presentations, students could bring artifacts from their time in middle school. For example, a student shared a video he worked on with his peers in middle school, and another student shared some kicks he learned while playing soccer.
