Nurturing Parenting Classes
The Nurturing Parenting Programs are family-based programs for the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. The programs were developed to help families who have struggles in parenting their children or those who just want to gain more positive strategies for handling issues in child rearing. This program is approved by family court for parents who have past child abuse and neglect allegations or who are at high risk for child maltreatment. The goals of the Nurturing Parenting Programs are to:
- Increase parents' sense of self-worth, personal empowerment, empathy, bonding, and attachment.
- Increase the use of alternative strategies to harsh and abusive disciplinary practices.
- Increase parents' knowledge of age appropriate developmental expectations.
- Reduce abuse and neglect rates.
Families First holds a spring and a fall session each year. Each of the FREE sessions lasts for 13 weeks. A light meal is served and child care is provided.
