PSAT is an optional, multiple-choice test that measures skills that are important for success in college including critical reading, math problem solving, and writing. We highly recommended that all college-bound students take this test. The PSAT is directly tied to consideration for the National Merit Scholarship Competition.
- Juniors: We recommend that all college-bound junior students take the PSAT. As a junior you are automatically entered into the National Merit Scholarship Competition by taking the PSAT. This could earn you thousands of dollars in scholarship money depending on your performance on the PSAT.
- Sophomores: High-achieving sophomore students are encouraged to take the PSAT in preparation for taking the PSAT again in junior year. You must take the PSAT again in the junior year in order to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Competition.
