Heads Up!

What do you get when you combine this truckload of materials,

Wood

and a group of 40 creative and energetic 9th grade students...

...a FORCE to be reckoned with!

Over the past 6 weeks the Project Based Learning (PBL) class at DHS has been exploring ancient siege warfare. In this combined Science and English class, students have researched,  designed and built catapults that serve as our textbooks for our unit on the conservation of energy.  Students have been calculating Potential and Kinetic Energy in order to solve for the theoretical launch velocity.  In addition, they have been honing their skills at persuasive letter writing as a means for securing sponsorship to subsidize their costs. All the while, these students have been fast learners when it comes to taking the initiative to solve problems in cooperative groups.

We invite you to come out to the DHS Homecoming game on Friday night and check us out. We'll have our catapults loaded and ready to demonstrate beside the large anchor!

We hope to see you there, and remember as you're walking in...keep your heads up!
