Kelley Hammond is the coordinator for Hogsett's Student Technology Leadership Program (S.T.L.P.). S.T.L.P. was established by the Kentucky Department of Education to empower students to use technology to learn and achieve through project based learning. During S.T.L.P., students use technology to create products, provide services or carry out projects that help the school and community.
The Mission of the Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) is to advance the individual capabilities of students; to motivate all students; and to create leadership opportunities through the use of technology.
At Hogsett, students in grades 3 - 5 are invited to stay after school to work on STLP projects.
They learn about new software and new hardware in order to assist teachers and other students in their classrooms. They also help keep the computers in the lab clean and updated.
Examples of projects the students complete include:
personalized business cards for teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week.
a yearly calendar that included important school dates each month. Students created Internet safety tip and posters to display on each month. They sold the calendars to raise money to be used for new equipment.
a weekly news program.
a "Staying Safe on the Internet" video.
a "Welcome to Hogsett" booklet, written in both English and Spanish.
a "Welcome to Hogsett" video, narrated in both English and Spanish.
