Danville Kids’ University

Danville Kids’ University, better known as DKU, is an award-winning innovative extended-learning program.  Third, fourth and fifth grade students from all three elementary schools in Danville are invited to join this special intensified learning environment. This year we have opened DKU up to middle school students as well. The outstanding DKU staff provides fun, interactive educational activities while encouraging students to reach for higher goals, have confidence in themselves and celebrate learning.

DKU students spend their day in small multi-aged groups, participating in different classes each day.  Each class has a teacher and an assistant.  Volunteers from various organizations assist with coordinating the Saturday morning program.  With a low teacher-student ratio, positive relationships are developed and individual needs are met.

Technology, an important learning tool at DKU, is modeled and used during large group and classroom activities.  Every student has access to handheld and desktop computers, which allow students to stretch creative boundaries, learn about the various uses of technology, and perform Internet research.

During the 2011-12 school year, DKU students will experience "21st Century GameQuest & Project Based Learning"! They will be challenged to create games that involve teamwork, problem solving and be creative -- all of which are important skills for success.
