We have had a GREAT year so far, and I know it will continue!! :-) The students have been learning the library procedures and seem to be catching on quickly!! Students have learned that there is a correct way to turn the pages of a book so that the book stays in the best condition possible. We have looked at a sample of books that have been returned damaged, and we talked about the correct ways to treat our books. They have learned how to use their place holder so that our books don't get lost on the shelves and what to do when they need to check out a book when it isn't their class time. We have just started looking at all of the features of our Destiny (our check out software) and Accelerated Reader programs.
WOW!! This has been a very busy year. Thank you for your support of the three recent "extra" activities I have sent out to you!! :-)
**The QSP booklet collection brought in approximately 100 booklets which equals out to $800 in product vouchers!! AND it didn't cost anyone a single penny - just your time in completing the booklets!! An extra big 'THANK YOU' to those parents who filled out multiple booklets!!
**The Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club will provide a free ticket to a Six Flags amuzement park for those students who returned their reading logs in on time. I have disappointing news to report that the Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom park has officially closed and will not reopen. :-( There were some negotiations going on, but I just received a letter from their headquarters stating that an agreement could not be reached. Please check out their website to help locate a park that is the most convenient for you.
**The yearbook is in its final stages and will be sent to the plant on March 15, 2010. Order forms were due Friday the 12th, but these were mainly for any student who wanted their yearbook personalized and/or with the inclusion of ZOOM. Yearbooks can be purchased at any time for $13.00. If you no longer have an order form, you may just send your payment in an envelope. The yearbooks should be delivered mid-May if not sooner.
**Of course, we just finished up with our Spring Scholastic Book Fair!! I hope you were able to attend one of the two family events. Even though our over-all profit was not what I had hoped, Toliver will definitely benefit from all of the purchases that were made. Thank You!! :-)
I hope this finds you resting and rejuvenating those brain cells!! I am just about finished reading one of Anthony Horowitz's books, Ark Angel, and I got to thinking about you and our Accelerated Reader program. If you would like to take a test before we return to school on January 4, 2010, just send me an email. I check my school email on a daily basis!!
Our 2009 - 2010 school year is definitely underway!! There have been many eager readers through our library doors already!! :-) Students are learning and/or re-learning the expectations of the library, proper book care, and the use of the place holder. Accelerated Reader quizzes are being taken on a daily basis. Approximately 200 new books have been added to our Toliver collection!! Come check them out!! :-)

WOW!! Where did the school year disappear to???? It is summer break and our Summer Readers program is well underway!! The library was open June 4th and June 17th and we have already had 25 students visit our facilities!! :-) There is one student who has already taken 18 AR quizzes!!!! What a great way to start off our new year!

Just an extra note - Summer Adventures, through the Reading First grant, begins June 30 and runs through July 23.
