The ACT Plan program helps 10th grade students build a solid foundation for future academic and career success and provides information needed to address school districts' high-priority issues. It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation years.The ACT Plan assessment is administered each fall to all Kentucky public school students enrolled in the 10th grade.

The ACT is a multiple-choice tests cover four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading and science. The tests emphasize reasoning, analysis, problem solving, and the integration of learning from various sources, as well as the application of these proficiencies to the kinds of tasks college students are expected to perform.The ACT assessment is administered each spring to all Kentucky public school grade 11 students.

K-PREP--Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress

The assessment for grades 3-8 is a blended model built with norm-referenced test (NRT) and criterion-referenced test (CRT) items which consist of multiple-choice (mc), extended-response (er) and short answer (sa) items. The NRT is a purchased test with national norms and the CRT portion is customized for Kentucky.

ACCESS for ELLs   
To meet No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Title III requirements, states are mandated to identify and annually administer a standards-based English language proficiency test to all English Language Learners (ELLs) in grades K-12. 

In order to comply with the NCLB requirement of an annual English Language Proficiency Assessment for ELLs, Kentucky joined the World-class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) Consortium in 2006. The WIDA Consortium’s goal is to provide research based assessments, standards and professional development to its member states. 
WIDA provides Kentucky with a placement test called the W-APT (WIDA ACCESS Placement Test) as well as the annual English Proficiency Assessment of ACCESS (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State) for ELLs. 

This is an English language assessment tied to the state’s language proficiency standards with varying stages of second language acquisition. It contains social and academic language contexts. For Title III accountability, ACCESS for ELLs measures annual gains in English language proficiency-Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAOs).

​The Kentucky Online Testing (KYOTE) placement testing system provides free online placement exams that measure preparedness for college level learning in mathematics, reading and writing.



​Kentucky high school seniors who have not met ACT benchmarks in mathematics, reading or English should take the college readiness math exam, reading exam or writing exam, respectively, following the completion of a transitional course or some other targeted intervention in each area. Students who meet the benchmarks are considered college ready in that subject area by the KDE and are guaranteed placement into a credit-bearing course in that area without the need for remediation at any public college or university in Kentucky.
Students whose mathematics ACT is 19, 20, or 21 should take and pass the college algebra exam to guarantee placement into college algebra at any public college or university in Kentucky. (This is an optional test.)

Seniors can take it once per semester following intervention.
