LEXINGTON:  Danville High School won the Bluegrass Regional Speech Tournament of the Kentucky High School Speech League by a wide margin on Saturday (February 7) over second place Lexington Henry Clay.  Lexington Lafayette placed third in the school competitions for the thirty-five county Bluegrass Region.  DHS qualified thirty-seven entries to compete at the state tournament in March and took home Regional Champion honors in five of the thirteen events with Regional Runner-Up honors in six.  DHS will enter the state contest as one of the favorites as it seeks to win the event for a sixth time. 


Advancing to state for the Speaking Admirals are Broadcasting: Mary-Scott Bugg, McCallum Morley (Regional Champion), and Sydney Mullins (Regional Runner-Up); Declamation:  Tanisha Bruce (Regional Runner-Up), Kelli MacLauchlin, and Grace Sheene; Dramatic Interpretation: Austin Barringer (Regional Runner-Up), Hannah Draut, and Laurel Payne (Regional Champion); Duo Interpretation:  Sue Cook/Lydia Graham and Dylan Godbey/Laurel Payne; Extemporaneous Speaking: Mary-Scott Bugg (Regional Runner-Up), Sue Cook, and Billy Critchfield; Humorous Interpretation: Lydia Graham (Regional Champion), Elizabeth Joiner, and Taylor Rankin; Impromptu Speaking: Greg Goldie and Becky Mohr; Improvisational Duo:  Zane Arnold/Matt Ballard, Briona Burnett/Dylan Godbey, and Elizabeth Joiner/Taylor Rankin; Original Oratory: Austin Barringer, Hannah Draut, and Hibah Siddiqui (Regional Champion); Poetry: Austin Barringer, Malik Robinson, and Grace Sheene (Regional Champion); Program Oral Interpretation: Zane Arnold (Regional Runner-Up), Hannah Draut, and Lydia Graham; Prose: Caitlin Haskett, Laurel Payne (Regional Runner-Up), and Grace Sheene; Storytelling: Levi Daugherty, Ruth Hughes, and Clay Williams.
