Senior Elisabeth Nesmith has been named a National Merit Finalist for 2018. She is one of approximately 15,000 finalists in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. As a Finalist, Nesmith will compete for one of 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarships that will be awarded on a state-representational basis.

Merit Scholar Finalists must fulfill several requirements including completing an application, having a consistently very high academic record, writing an essay, be endorsed and recommended by a school official, take the SAT® and earn a score in the top 1% of Kentucky.

“Watching Elisabeth work toward this milestone over the last four years has been a privilege for all of our staff,” said Haley Ralston, principal at Danville High School. “Earning the distinction of a National Merit Finalist is a rewarding reflection of her hard work in the classroom.”

While taking twenty honor and advanced placement courses Elisabeth has managed to maintain nearly perfect grades with a 4.93 GPA. She is a member of the Aqua Ads, active in the Trinity Episcopal Church youth group and an intern at Kentucky Refugee Ministry. Nesmith will find out if she will become a Merit Scholar in the spring.
