Daily temperature checks, scraped knees and upset tummies are all becoming familiar to new school nurse Lorrie Phillips.

Phillips made her official debut as the Danville Independent School District’s new nurse on Feb. 1, filled with excitement and anticipation.

Originally, Phillips pursued a degree in K-12 art education but due to a move, she was unable to finish. Once she heard a school nurse position was available, she seized the opportunity to apply and was hired.

Prior to working within the school district, she was a nurse at Ephraim McDowell where she worked alongside hospice and medical surgeons and provided care for pediatric patients.

Although her first week on the job has been slightly busier than anticipated, Phillips loves working with children, both little and big.

¨I love being around kids. As a preacher’s wife I work a lot in our church with the youth groups,” said Phillips.

While Nurse Phillips will be stationed at Edna L. Toliver Elementary, she along with District Nurse Beverly Wolf will have a floating schedule that allows all schools to have nursing services.
