Danville High School Names New Principal

(DANVILLE, Ky.–) Dr. Catherine Slack of Clermont, Fla. will be Danville High School's new principal, effective July 1, 2016.

Slack has over 27 years of experience in education, including over ten years as an assistant principal for middle and high schools. She is currently serving as assistant principal at East Ridge Middle School in Clermont, Fla. and is an adjunct instructor at Lake Sumter Community College. She is also currently responsible for a $500,000 personalized learning initiative at her current school.  

Slack earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Union College (Kentucky), master’s degree in mathematics from Old Dominion University (Virginia), and doctorate in educational leadership with emphasis on school law from the University of Central Florida. She has served on various committees, including work on on school safety, juvenile justice, and small learning communities, won two separate Teacher of the Year awards from local organizations, and was nominated twice for a National Presidential Math/Science Award.

"Dr. Slack demonstrated in her application and interviews great poise, awareness, sensitivity, and an internal drive that is contagious. She will be not only a capable leader of Danville High School, but a great asset to the development of students and staff throughout the district. I look forward to her first day – and every day that follows," Superintendent Keith Look, Ed.D. said.

The Danville Independent Schools is a K-12 public school district serving students for over a century. It boasts deep roots in the arts and theater, forensics, cultural diversity, community service, and athletics. It is one of seven districts awarded District of Innovation status from the Kentucky Department of Education.
