Danville High School placed first of all high schools competing in the twenty-four county Bluegrass Region of the Kentucky High School Speech League (KHSSL) and was named Regional Speech Champion on Saturday.  DHS placed twenty-seven points ahead of second place Lexington Henry Clay with Lexington Dunbar placing third.

The tournament was held at SCAPA Bluegrass Middle school in Lexington and featured competition in thirteen speech events.  Schools could send up to three entries in each event; Danville has qualified all thirty-nine entries possible to compete in the state speech tournament.  Additionally, Regional Champions and Runners Up were named in each speech event for the best scores at the Regional Tournament. DHS took over half of these Regional honors including five Regional Championships:  Chan Cheam and Levi Daugherty in Duo Interpretation, returning state champions Zane Arnold and Matt Ballard in Improv Duo, Hannah Draut in Program Oral Interpretation, Grace Sheene in Prose, and Lydia Graham in Storytelling. 

The KHSSL State Speech Tournament will be held March 11 and 12 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.  Advancing to state for DHS in Broadcasting are Abigail Anderson (Regional Runner-Up), Kelli MacLauchlin, and McCallum Morley; in Declamation Charlie Hall (Regional Runner-Up), Becky Mohr, and Claire Strysick; in Dramatic Interpretation Hannah Draut, Dylan Godbey, and Grace Sheene (Regional Runner-Up); in Duo Interpretation Matt Ballard and McCallum Morley, Chan Cheam and Levi Daugherty (Regional Champions), and Dylan Godbey and Clay Williams (Regional Runners Up); in Extemporaneous Speaking Caroline Bugg, Billy Critchfield, and Katie Critchfield; in Humorous Interpretation Levi Daugherty (Regional Runner-Up), Lydia Graham, and Charlie Hall; in Impromptu Speaking Billy Critchfield, Greg Goldie, and Emma Merryman (Regional Runner-Up); in Improv Duo Zane Arnold and Matt Ballard (Regional Champions), Dylan Godbey and Natalie Grubbs, and Charlie Hall and Haley Hopkins; in Oratory Abigail Anderson, Sara Barringer, and Celeste Fieberg (Regional Runner-Up); in Poetry Caitlin Haskett, Hope McCowan, and Cole Verhoven; in Program Oral Interpretation Zane Arnold, Hannah Draut (Regional Champion), and Lydia Graham; in Prose Hannah Draut (Regional Runner-Up), Greg Goldie, and Grace Sheene (Regional Champion); in Storytelling Zane Arnold (Regional Runner-Up), Lydia Graham (Regional Champion), and Hope McCowan.
