Smith will assume the role when his interim duties conclude for current 2015-16 school year.

A Danville alumnus (Class of '78), Smith brings over 30 years of experience in education. During that span, he served in the roles of teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and as a team leader for the Kentucky Center for School Safety. Most recently, Smith was particularly influential in the dramatic increase of student achievement and cohesion in the Lincoln County School District, at both the high school and elementary school levels, as both administrative leadership coach and interim principal.  

The director of secondary education will provide leadership and support to the schools in ensuring student achievement, post-secondary readiness, developmentally-appropriate learning environments, and clear communication with students and families. Smith will also facilitate capacity-building of staff as they bring forth the most engaging instructional and assessment strategies for learning.
