The Danville High School Chapter of the Junior State of America will host its seventh annual Veterans Day Breakfast and Assembly beginning with a breakfast at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the DHS cafeteria, followed by the assembly at 10 a.m. in Gravely Hall. The theme for this year’s assembly is “Lives of Sacrifice.” All area veterans are invited to both events as the school’s honored guests.

The assembly will feature Dr. Harry Conn as this year’s speaker. Conn, chair of DHS social studies department, is also a retired staff sergeant major.

He served in the army from 1971 to 2001 and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. During his years of service, he attained the highest rank possible for an enlisted man. In his Veterans Day speech, Conn will profile five veterans who served in different branches of the service during various military conflicts.

In addition, JSA members have been interviewing local veterans as part of the Library of Congress’s Veterans History Project. A video of interview highlights will be shown during the assembly. Videos of the interviews in their entirety will become part of the Library of Congress’s archives in Washington, D.C. They will also be on display at Centre College Norton Center on Nov. 18 in conjunction with Stephen Lang’s one-man show “Beyond Glory.” The Veterans History Project has received local support from the Norton Center and the Boyle County Public Library.
