1. Do you think that students get more influenced to go to college by taking these trips?
Yes, the college visits make a difference. The students get to meet admission counselors that can answer all of their questions. They also learn different ways each college or university is willing to help them secure the resources to attend college. They get a feel for the environment of the campus which helps them decided if the school is a good fit for them. They find out information that is not in a catalogue or website.
2. What is your goal for leading young achievers?
My goal for the Young Achievers is to help students make the most of their future beginning with being the best student they can be while still in high school. I want the students to know the can reach their goals; anything is possible through hard work and determination. I hope to expose them to the many career opportunities available to them. I want them to attend college for vocational school and be prepared for the world of work. I hope to instill confidence in the students that they can get accepted into an institution of higher learning, be able to finance their education and graduate from the program or programs of their choice.
3. Do you think it's making a difference in students?
I know the Young Achievers program makes a difference. Several students that have been a part of the program are in and have graduated from intuitions of higher learning. Some of these students would not be there without the program. This year there are two graduating seniors that I helped find a college that fits them and offers fields they want to major in. They have been accepted and will be attending these schools this fall because they were a part of the Young Achievers program.
