Win Smith Named Danville High School Interim Principal
Posted on 07/29/2015
Evaluating the 2015-16 school year as one of rebuilding for Danville High School (DHS), the school’s site-based decision-making team (SBDM) looks to former DHS educator Win Smith to serve as the interim principal. Though a talented candidate pool, the SBDM believes a new principal will have much greater success, fulfillment, and longevity taking the reins in 2016-17. The SBDM sees this as an important decision intended to align and unify priorities, staff, and performance under the direction of a veteran, proven leader. The SBDM appreciates greatly the investment of time, thought, and devotion of the candidates and encourages them to continue their interest in the position when the search resumes. Mr. Smith served as the Danville High School principal from 2006 – 2011, when DHS reached its highest levels of aggregate ACT performance. After the principalship, Mr. Smith was appointed to the executive board of the Kentucky Center for School Safety by Governor Beshear. His work continued as the Education Leadership Coach for Lincoln County High School (2011-12), helping to raise their performance from the 12th to 58th percentile in state accountability and later in a similar role at Stanford Elementary School (2013-14), where performance grew from the 9th to the 68th percentile.  READ MORE...

Danville High School made a strong showing at the two national speech and debate tournaments held at the end of the school year. At the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Speech and Debate tournament held in Ft. Lauderdale over Memorial Day weekend, nearly six hundred high schools and two thousand students from around the country, winners of diocesan contests sponsored around the United States earlier this year, competed in six speech and four debate events on Saturday and Sunday. When Saturday’s competitions were tallied, approximately twenty percent of the entries in each event were advanced to the award rounds including Danville’s Sue Cook and Lydia Graham in Duo Interpretation, who were named Octofinalists. Additionally, junior Zane Arnold and senior Mary-Scott Bugg served as presiding officers in the national Student Congress (Congressional Debate).   READ MORE...
