Danville Schools 2014-15 Kindergarten Registration

The Danville Schools are registering Kindergarten students for the 2014-15 school year. If your child will be five (5) years of age by October 1, 2014 and is a resident of the Danville School district, we invite you to enroll him/her in the Danville Schools. Contact the Danville Board of Education on or before May 16th. Please call 238-1300. NOTE: Those students already enrolled in Hogsett Preschool do not need to call and register. The Lydia Ellis Innovative Arts Educator Award

The Danville Schools Education Foundation is currently seeking nominations for the Lydia Ellis Innovative Arts Educator Award. Teachers in the Danville Schools who make a significant contribution to engaging Danville students PK – 12th grade in dance, drama, music, visual arts, media arts or multi-disciplinary arts instruction in creating, performing and responding are eligible. The Lydia Ellis Innovative Arts Educator Award was created by the Danville Schools Education Foundation to honor outstanding arts educators working in an artistic discipline or disciplines or significantly integrating the arts into classroom instruction. Named for Lydia Ellis, an outstanding retired arts educator and media specialist, the Innovative Arts Educator is awarded annually to a Danville Schools teacher. Designated in 2012 – 2013, the first award recipient was Lydia Ellis.   READ MORE...
Danville Schools Local Planning Committee Public Forum

The Danville Schools’ Local Planning Committee will host the first of two public forums on Thursday, March 27th, 2014 at 6:00PM in the Danville High School cafeteria. The purpose of this forum is to seek input from the community as it relates to elementary school facilities and the Danville Schools’ current District Facility Plan. All stakeholders are invited to attend and share comments, concerns, and suggestions. The Local Planning Committee will take all input under advisement. The LPC will take no action on the evening of the first public forum on March 27th. There will be a second public forum in order for community members to have an additional opportunity to offer comments and concerns related to school facilities. Hogsett Teacher Recognized for the "Let’s Move! Active Schools Program"

Hogsett PE teacher Candace Young was recently recognized at the Kentucky Board of Education meeting for being enrolled in the Let's Move! Active Schools Program. Minority Parent Representative Needed for Danville Board of Education Superintendent Screening Committee

The Danville Board of Education is currently conducting a search for a new superintendent. The regulation requires that the Board have a screening committee. One of the members of that committee must be a minority representative. The district will be accepting nominations for a minority parent representative to serve on the screening committee. Any minority parent of a child currently enrolled in the Danville Schools is eligible for nomination. Parent nominations need to be made by e-mail or in writing by contacting the secretary (click read more for contact info) at the school their child attends by 3:00 on Thursday, March 27th.   READ MORE...
Parent Representative needed for Danville Board of Education Superintendent Screening Committee

The Danville Board of Education is currently conducting a search for a new superintendent. The regulation requires that the Board have a screening committee. One of the members of that committee must be a parent representative. The district will be accepting nominations for a parent representative to serve on the screening committee. An individual may nominate themselves or another interested parent. Any parent of a child currently enrolled in the Danville Schools is eligible for nomination. DHS Wrestler Daniel Lannum Finishes as State Runner-up

Danville High School senior Daniel Lannum finished as the state runner-up in his weight class this past weekend at the state wrestling championship. Daniel won two matches Friday and then two more on Saturday to reach the championship. He finished the season 49-2. Great job Daniel! Forensics Senior Spotlight Thursday @ 7 PM

The Danville Forensics team will showcase its Seniors in a free Spotlight performance at 7 PM Thursday in Gravely Hall. Come one come all to see Cloe Anderson (Storytelling), Emma Jackson (Humorous Interpretation), Ben McAllister and Zane Arnold (Duo Interpretation), Haley McCowan (Oratorical Declamation), Andrew McKinney and Cloe Anderson (Duo Interpretation), and Deanna Rehberg (Poetry Interpretation) perform their competition scripts as the team gets ready to head to the state tournament in March. JSA Winter Congress Update

The Danville High School JSA chapter attended the National Winter Congress in Washington this past weekend. The trip was a record-breaking success! Here are the highlights: 15 students participated, equaling our largest contingent (2009), 4 of the 5 bills they wrote and submitted were among the 67 included on the docket for debate (they were written and sponsored by Andrew McKinney, Austin Barringer, Hibah Siddiqui, Eric Matherly, Emma Jackson, Jacob Rankin, Griffin Ross and one BCHS student), Hibah and Eric's bill passed in the House but was narrowly defeated in the Senate committee, the other 3 bills were  READ MORE...
Students Perform With the Danville Children's Choir

11 students from Danville Schools recently participated with the Danville Children’s Choir during KMEA. The choir was selected by audition to perform for the Kentucky Music Educators State In-service Convention. They were the only Children’s Choir selected to perform for over 6000 music educators from across the state. This is a great honor for the choir and a valuable learning experience for the singers. Our district students are: Bate Middle School-Caleb Campbell, Eleanor Grubbs, Natalie Grubbs, Emma Merryman, Becky Mohr, Lilly Moreland, and Claire Strysick. DHS Academic Team Wins 10th Consecutive Regional Quick Recall Title

The DHS Academic Team competed Saturday afternoon at Southwestern High School in the quick recall portion of the Region 12 Governor's Cup Competition and I am pleased to report that the team walked away with the 1st place trophy for the 10th consecutive year! The team went undefeated in the tournament, including a thrilling comeback in the championship match. Team members Brittany Kenyon, Joseph Muth, Emma Kagan-Moore, Danny McAllister, Sarah Goosey, and Charlie Lynch were down 6 points to the host team in the finals before rattling off 9 of the final 11 questions to seal the game and the championship. National Arts Standards Public Review

(Frankfort, KY) – The National Coalition for Core Arts Standards (NCCAS) has scheduled a final public review of the draft Pre-K through grade 12 arts standards in dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts.
